The BuyRemorse guide

Was it worth it? Review a purchase without judging yourself

Compare expectations with an actual experience, identify what helped and decide what to repeat or change without giving yourself a regret score.

Begin with what you expected, if you recorded it

Find the note you made before the purchase or experience. What did you hope it would bring? If you did not write anything down, describe the expectation you remember and label it as a recollection. Do not present a later reconstruction as a record made beforehand. BuyRemorse follows this distinction in its follow-up panel: the original expectation is fixed after the first save, and a first entry made after the experience is labelled as recalled.

Describe what happened before deciding what it means

Use concrete moments. “We cooked together twice most weeks” says more than “the kitchen was worth it.” “I enjoyed the view but found the transfers tiring” leaves room for a mixed vacation experience. Include what worked, what was difficult and what you have not used enough to assess. You do not need to reduce everything to one positive or negative verdict. A useful review can recognise pleasure and inconvenience at the same time.

Compare like with like

Return to the benefit you originally wanted. If you wanted more shared time, ask about shared time before judging the purchase by whether other people admired it. If your priorities changed, say so. A changed situation is relevant context, not evidence that an earlier hope was dishonest. Keep hypothetical alternatives separate from the actual experience: you may imagine that a simpler version would have been better, but you did not necessarily live that version. Record that as a possibility to explore next time.

Find one thing to keep and one thing to change

What would you repeat? Perhaps it was the slower pace, a useful feature or the decision to try before buying. What would you handle differently? You might verify a detail, reduce the number of upgrades or involve someone else earlier. Prefer a specific action to a label about yourself. “Check the packed weight next time” is more usable than “I always make bad choices.” This is an everyday reflection exercise, not a psychological assessment or treatment.

Keep the lesson somewhere you can return to

Write a short note with your expectation, actual outcome and next-time action. In BuyRemorse, choose Experienced when you are recording a real outcome and select how it compared with your hopes. A saved journey remains available for 30 days after creation; saving a review does not extend that period. Download the notes if you want to keep them longer. Revisit dates are prompts inside the workspace when you return, not emailed reminders. The useful result is a clearer next decision, not a perfect record or a score proving you should have known the future.
